PS1: The Bag to Have

I’ve long had my eye on Proenza Schouler’s covet-worthy PS1 bag. Since its debut four years ago for Fall 2008, it’s been steadily rising to icon status. Sure it was the “it”-bag during its first year of fashion reign, but the bag that works year after year has the makings of a true classic. With multiple sizes, seemingly endless colors available, street-style and celeb-style inspiration galore, I was dying to get my hands on one of these babies. When a promising package arrived today at the front door (no less than a week before my birthday), my heart skipped a beat and my inner fashionista rejoiced.
Could it be? Could it be?

Just to back up a bit, this bag is everywhere. If you are an avid fashion blog reader or celebrity weekly reader, you had to have (at least once) come across a photo with a PS1 slung over someone’s shoulder, resting snugly on an outstretched wrist or tucked nicely under an arm. Even after several seasons and a follow-up PS11, this style was still high on many style-seekers’ lists — including mine. From a small pochette style to a medium bag to a tote to an extra large carryall, the PS1 fits any carrier’s need.
Here are just a few of the lovely ladies who have been spotted in the company of the PS1:
Lauren Conrad, Leighton Meester, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen, Kirsten Dunst,
Minka Kelly, Jessica Alba, Reese Witherspoon, Khloe Kardashian

I love these street-style shots with bright, vivid PS1s ranging from fuchsia to watermelon to yellow.

Finally, here it is! My very own PS1!
My wonderfully thoughtful hubby really outdid himself.  He had flagged this little detail of my obsession months ago, waiting for the right occasion. What a guy! To maintain the timeless appeal and to fit the beachy casual vibe of where we live, he thought the classic white would be perfect and I have to say, I agree! Feel free to continue drooling, meanwhile, I will continue to walk on air!

Six Going on Sixteen. No Really.

Call it the Hollywood way. Call it the cool mom approach. Call it whatever you want.
The new(ish) trend going around is letting little kids play the part of teenager. Not just for play time or dress up, but all the time. Between wearing clothes way beyond their years, sporting dark lipstick and (gasp) even dying their hair, these hip Hollywood kids barely look their age.
I don’t mind a little makeup here or there for fun after a certain age, but I’m not so sure about letting a 5, 6 or 7 year old color their hair or get highlights. What do you think? Would you let your kids do this?

obsessed with the beauty department

I just discovered Lauren Conrad and company’s blog all about hair, makeup, and beauty. I think I’m a little obsessed. (I’ve also been watching old episodes of The Hills on the TV Guide channel during the day, much to Hunter’s dismay. He doesn’t get it and asks questions like, “So the bleach blonde and Lauren used to be friends? Who is that stupid Spencer guy?) Anyway, I immediately started reading all the previous beauty department posts and realized they just launched it April 19th. So much good stuff in such little time. Not only are there beauty trends but also specific how-tos to copy Lauren’s style, which I certainly plan to do. She always looks gorgeous and I’m glad they’re setting her beauty secrets right out in the open for people like me to steal. Don’t mind if I do!

Look of the Day: Lively in Yellow

I love this punch of color on Blake Lively with her classic navy shorts. Gossip Girl has the best wardrobe.

Look of the Day: Neutrals are Hot!

Jennifer Aniston never strays too far from classics and neutrals, but always keeps her look fresh and fashionable.

I may have found my new favorite dress! I really like this Temperley dress Emma Roberts just wore to a movie premiere. It looks young, fun, sophistocated and stylish– a perfect mix! Her relaxed hair and braids in the front keep the whole look from seeming too stuffy. Who wants that anyway? This is comfortable, chic and I think it’s calling my name…

Looking Polished in Turquoise

The ladies are loving bright blue nails lately! Have you noticed this turquoise color popping up everywhere on the polished hands (and feet) of stylish celebrities and fashionistas? I have. Jessica Alba tried the trend for a red carpet appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival for a departure from her usual choices. Whitney Port wore it awhile back with a more casual look.
One of my favorite bloggers has included the shade in more than one recent post. I love how it complements her turquoise necklace here.

So what do you think? Is this a trend to try or one to trash. I think I’m undecided.

E&J Favorites

With such a nice day today, I’m starting to feel a little spring fever and all I can think about is warmer weather and lighter clothing. Maybe even showing a little leg (although a little time in the sun is a prerequisite). Pieces like these from Elizabeth and James are on my list to get me through to sunshine and beach days.

E&J blazer.
I love it with the bright white pants on Zoe Saldana.E&J dress
The black booties on Hayden Panettiere keep it a little edgy. Now, on to shopping with these in mind!

Golden Globes Dresses

Is it raining everywhere this weekend? I love watching the red carpet and seeing what the stars are wearing. They still look fabulous despite the weather. There’s no way my hair would maintain a hairstyle with rain pouring down like that. It would be puffy and curly in no time at all! As for the fashions, it looks like the hot dresses this year are soft blush tones, bright jewel tones (especially shades of purple) and, of course, my favorite black and white gowns. New Year’s Party Dresses

I still haven’t actually made any plans for New Year’s Eve since Hunter will be out of town, so most likely I’ll be watching the ball drop with Ryan Seacrest on the telly. I thought about going out with a few girlfriends, but being dressed up and dateless at the stroke of midnight doesn’t sound that appealing. Even so, I can’t help but check out party dress after party dress. Here are a few I’m digging from Gossip Girl and red carpets:

Any of these would surely be the life of a party!
